Canadian entrepreneur, founder of ConesSys, and co-founder of Ethereum Joseph Lubin took the stage at SXSW 2018 to discuss why blockchain technology will change the world. Now, for SXSW 2019, Joseph Lubin will return to Austin, Texas as a Keynote speaker.
Looking back at this 2018 session, Forbes Senior Editor, Laura Shin, interviews Lubin about Ethereum, the powerful blockchain system that can be publicly and, without permission, accessed from anywhere in the world.
Lubin explains how he first became interested in blockchain, why he joined Vitalik Buterin on the Ethereum Project in 2015, and why he chose to start a company as uniquely structured as ConsenSys. Additionally, he shares his vision for a decentralized future enabled by this technology.
“Instead of Bitcoin which was an experiment in monetary theory, or a single use application, Ethereum was a general platform for decentralized application,” Lubin said of the company’s inception. “And that architecture has captured the imagination of many.”
Ethereum also produces Ether, a cryptocurrency that can be distributed through the platform.
“We’re building about twenty-five different platforms in various different industries from music to longitudinal health to supply-chain to law in which we’re really seeing the nature of business shifting. It’s part of what we’re calling the decentralized web or web 3.0.”
The rise of decentralization and evolution of digital currency has been a popular topic in tech circles and will undoubtedly remain at the forefront of the industry in years to come. Join Joseph Lubin this March at SXSW 2019 as he continues the conversation.
