As we officially kick off SXSW 2019, we invite all registrants to visit the SXSW Podcast Stage presented by Cadence13 which will host over 30 podcasts covering all facets of life to an intimate stage that will be recorded before a live audience! Podcasts being featured will cover topics such as music, film, technology, comedy, politics, and more, and will take place in the JW Marriot in the Brazos Room from March 8-14.

“I’m excited for the SXSW Podcast Stage to return,” said Casey Slater, Conference Programmer. “The stage is a perfect melting pot for all of SXSW’s content from film, music, health, social impact, style, politics, and more. The SXSW Podcast Stage is an intimate and unique experience unlike any other stage at the conference.”

Nothing is off limits in these sessions – from spreading Black Joy with Queen and J. to how to present hard-hitting subject matter with Andrew Jenks and Erin Lee Carr, to conversations about privacy, mass surveillance, foreign influence campaigns and the spread of propaganda with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and bio-hacking your life to balance happiness and success with Heather Dubrow, Whitney Casey, Brooklyn Decker, and Jaclyn Johnson. Go behind the scenes of the music industry during The Writer Is… with Wyclef Jean and Baratunde Thurston or dive into the future of genetics, wellness, and personalization with Spit featuring Tim McGraw.

What Really Happened? With Andrew Jenks

Speakers: Andrew Jenks and Erin Lee Carr

Joining Jenks on the SXSW stage is critically-acclaimed documentary filmmaker Erin Lee Carr as she premieres her new film, I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth Vs. Michelle Carter at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. Together they will discuss how documentarians avoid the inherent trap falls that come when presenting hard-hitting subject matter while working to create an entertaining story that doesn’t lose the substance of the material. Jenks and Carr will share how they navigate the balance of contextualizing meaningful content together with other “sexy” elements that are known to entice large audiences. And with so many factors at play, how does it all relate to the stories they tell?
