The SXSW Music Festival dates back to 1987 when 177 artists gathered on 15 stages in Austin, Texas. The inaugural Music Festival formed a new music landscape for the city each March through live performances that have continued to grow over the years into what it is today – over 2,000 new, developing, and established artists from 60+ countries.
