“Moondog is real Bob Dylan folk poet, he’s a bit of a stew of different cats I’ve run into on my travels.” – Matthew McConaughey
Described by Harmony Korine as his version of a stoner film, The Beach Bum follows the hilarious misadventures of Moondog, a rebellious rogue who always lives life by his own rules. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Stefania Lavie Owen, Jimmy Buffett, Zac Efron, and Martin Lawrence.
One of the shining moments of the film is the outstanding ensemble cast. During the Q&A, casting director LaShawna Stanley spoke on how she made Korine’s casting vision come to life.
“[Korine] likes interesting, eclectic people who look like they have cool stories. I make sure everything is authentic, it’s real people. Everything I cast is real people. The cops are real, the yoga girl is real, the Rastafarians are real – we want to bring that authenticity to his project to bring his vision to life.”
