C O M | M AY / J U N E 2 0 1 6 | S X S W o r l d 9 Brazil Cleans Up at the SXSW Trade Show The Brazilian stand at SXSW 2016 hosted more than 35 companies from the Brazilian cre- ative industries sector, from tech startups to film production to design. One of the many success stories was Trendt, a fashion design company with an innovative garment cleaning product called Biosoftness that has sustainability in its DNA. This organic and inexpensive blend reduces the washing cycle and protects washables from bacteria, fungus, odor bac- teria and vectors. CEO Renan Serrano received a terrific response from SXSW registrants and sold all of the product on display in the Trade Show. Follow Our Alumni Films On Release The life of a film doesn't end when SXSW wraps. We maintain a regular blog keeping you abreast of all the SXSW alumni films hit- ting screens, whether that means theatrical, VOD/SVOD, On Demand, or DVD and Blu-ray. It's all posted on sxsw.com/film. You can also find a wealth of information about SXSW via our social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Greek Startups' SXSW 2016 Success Stories Startups from Greece had a big presence at SXSW 2016, with the support of the Hellenic Initiative and International Accelerator. Take a look at some of their SXSW success stories: Telemedic Medical Applications pitched for the first time at SXSW and is securing $500K in seed round with potential $5 million in future funding. Gridmates pitched at SXSW for the second year and received nearly $200K in seed funding, also securing an over $125K grant from the U.S. Department of Energy for the 2nd most innovative cleantech technology in the U.S. Schoox attended SXSW for the third year and has received four rounds of Series A capital, of $4 million, and has grown by over 100% in personnel in Greece in the past two years. Additionally, this year Schoox was listed as the 5th best startup in Austin, Texas. Fly N Buy pitched for first time at SXSW and has secured $125K with potential $1 million in seed funding and $5 million in series A. The current funding is enabling the company to secure a large aviation client in Southeast Asia. My-E-tutor pitched for the first time at SXSW and is negotiating with one of the world's largest online education platform companies (met at SXSW) to explore an affinity partner- ship and has got a mentor committed to help raise $300K. Sentigeek pitched for the first time at SXSW and is negotiating with a company engaged in the big-data industry to enable Domain-specific Sentiment Analysis & Opinion Mining. Exposure with the target company would NOT have happened if it were not for SXSW. ERGON Foods promotes Greek gastronomy in Greece, Europe and the U.S. through 1,200 branded premium artisan food products. It has created 11 concept stores since 2011 in Europe and the U.S., where products are sold and served on a healthy, modern Mediterranean menu. A personal investor committed $50K to have a franchise in Austin and more than 25 restaurants elsewhere in the U.S. are in negotiations. AppterraNova is a cloud based social concierge/activity service. It sold 70% of the com- pany for $15m dollars. Near is an open GIF/storytelling app where users share their everyday moments with the whole world. The company was sold after a less than one year development period. Ark Analytics participated for the first time at SXSW this year. This fintech has huge potential based on feedback from half dozen CFO's. International Accelerator is currently assisting with identification of a CEO in the U.S. as well as providing advice for a $750K seed round. Mobiltron is a cloud-based health emergency response mobile app. It has raised about $200K. This year marked its second participation in SXSW. Advantis, formerly Tomotech, is web-based post-processing and 3D visualization MRI soft- ware for the accurate diagnosis of chronic diseases. Advantis participated in last year's SXSW and looks to have raised at least $200k. SXSW Alumni Confirmed for this Summer's High Road Tour This summer, the High Road Tour promises to be the summer's biggest hip-hop tour and fea- tures six SXSW alumni sharing the stage for 33 dates, starting July 20 and ending on September 2. Headliners Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa will be joined by Kevin Gates, Jhene Aiko, Casey Veggies, and DJ Drama.
